School Gen team

Today Evie, Millie and Mia from the School Gen team came to talk to  Room1 about solar power.
They showed us how solar panels work by capturing energy from the sun. The Room1 children helped connect up a buzzer, a light and a fan to a little solar panel.

The buzzer made everyone laugh with it's funny sound out in the sunlight!

Millie, Evie and Mia then talked about ways to save electricity in our classroom and at home and we had a quiz about what we had learned. Super answers Room1! I was so pleased you remembered so much information!

Taking Action!
Room 1 have decided that it will be the superstar of the day's responsibility to make sure we turn the classroom lights off at lunchtime when we are not there.
We will go over to the senior school and look for the solar panels on the classroom roof and find out more about how they work.
Thank you Mia, Evie and Millie for coming to talk to Room 1 about solar energy!

Its lovely to see the bigger kids teaching younger children what they're learning. Great idea to turn the lights off at lunchtime. Perhaps George can think of ways for us to save energy at home? From George's Mum
