He won the medal as the cox in his team of rowers. They came 3rd in the final of their race. He told us how everyone had to work together and train hard to do their best.
He felt proud to win a medal for New Zealand!
Room 1 were surprised at how big and heavy it was! Every one had a turn to wear it while they imagined what sport they would like to do well at!

How special to touch the medal and to listen to Mr Bird's experience. My old teacher was in the same Olympic, refereeing hockey. I admire all those athletes contribute to people in many different ways, teaching skills and talking about what they have learnt from sports and what we could learn from sports, participating and doing our best.
I am sure all children in Room 1 will remember this special day and will tell all their children about the medal they saw. Thank you Mr Bird and Mrs Ryan.
