Week 2 certificates.

Here are our great role models for week 2!
Well done everyone!

100 days Smarter!

Today Room 1 celebrated the 100th day of school this year with.....
100 in mandarins...
Necklaces with 100 rings of cereal or paper clips...

100 iced cookies...
100 shaped pizzas...

100 shaped chocolate cake!

We played games with 100 numbers and wore origami 100 number pendants.
We are 100 days smarter!
It was a great day! Tomorrow we will start counting to 200 days!

Maori Language Week

Room 1 were really excited when Mr Chadwick told us about his competition for Year 1 for Maori Language Week! Could we find out the meaning of the second longest Maori place name in New Zealand and remember it long enough to repeat it to back to him?
Lots of us thought we could!
And we did! Seven people remembered enough to earn balloons and stickers. Ka pai Room 1!

Here it is!

Science with Stan

Local scientist Stan Swan popped in to Room1 to show us an experiment with dry ice!
Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide and when we added it to a container of water it produced clouds of steamy gas, just like smoke! Very exciting!

Week 1 Certificates.

Congratulations to these great role models during our first week back at school this term!

Learning Spanish

We were lucky to have Sara, who speaks Spanish, visit Room 1 this week. She taught us a welcome song and read a story to help us learn the Spanish words for numbers up to 10.
Javier was her expert helper! Everyone loved it and we have been practising counting and  welcoming each other in Spanish.

New Term New Learning!

During the holidays I challenged myself to try something new!
These elephants work on a jungle plantation in Thailand and each one has a master who is very kind and sings or whistles special songs to it as it works.
To ride my elephant I had to listen carefully to all the instructions and learn to hold on with my knees just behind its ears!

At school we talk about taking risks and having a try at something we are not sure if we can do.

This monk looks after abandoned and orphaned tiger cubs which grow into HUGE tigers! When he pointed to me to
come and give it a pat I had to be brave and have a go!

There will be great new learning happening in Room 1 this term!
