Craters on the Moon

Room1 have been investigating why the moon has big craters on it.

We read  that it has been hit by asteroids so we collected some rocks, stones and objects of different shapes and weights to drop into our moon sand. We made moon sand with baby oil and flour mixed together and smoothed it into a cake tin to look like a moon shape.
We found that the biggest rocks made the biggest craters and the higher we held them the bigger the crater. Big light objects like the Christmas tree ball just made little dents.
Room1 think that asteroids must be heavy and travelling very fast to make the big dents or craters on the moon!
