Carter Observatory Visit

Today all the Year 1 students visited the Carter Observatory in Wellington to learn about our Solar System.

We all took part in a workshop where we had a turn to hold a moon stick or a torch.

When we shone the torch on different parts of the moon stick we could see the different shapes of the moon that we can see in the sky.

After that we explored the galleries and tried out lots of space experiments.

Last of all we watched a planetarium show about Tycho the Space dog who got lost in the solar system and flew close to lots of planets on his way back to Earth. We lay back in the sloping seats and watched the show on the ceiling!

We all had a wonderful time and enjoyed learning new information about the Earth, the Sun,the Moon and other stars and planets in our Solar System!
