The Food Pyramid

Our inquiry this term is ‘Healthy Eating - Food for Energy’
This week we are learning to understand what the food pyramid is.
During our visit to the Life Education Truck we met Harold the Giraffe and  learned that there are 3 main food groups in the pyramid.

Some foods at the top are made of sugar or fat and are treats or “sometimes” foods.
A bigger group are animal products and help us grow.
The biggest group at the base of the pyramid
are foods from plants that help us grow and give us lots of energy. We should eat the most from this group.
Together the 3 groups make up a balanced diet.

In the classroom we are taking turns at placing foods appropriately in a food pyramid, naming major food groups and describing how and why these food groups give us energy.
