Maori Language Week
This week is Maori Language so as well as our usual daily greetings, songs and counting we have been working on correct pronounciation of all the Maori words we use. Reikura has been a wonderful expert and teacher for us all.
Thank you Reikura!
Thank you Reikura!
Meila is her helper!
Floating Magnets
This week we experimented with magnetic attraction to see if a magnetic field could pass through a solid object- in this case a piece of cardboard.Great problem solving!
We worked in pairs with a buddy as it was tricky to stick down the tape AND hold the magnet in the right place!
We attached a cotton thread to the base of a box and tied on a paper clip taped to a picture of a flying object. When we put a magnet on the top of the box the magnet attracted the paper clip through the cardboard and our flying object-a butterfly, rocket, aeroplane or planet was suspended without touching the box-just as if it was flying! Check them out in the classroom!

Investigating magnetism
Room1 are investigating the properties of magnets and will be making fridge magnets to hold up our word walls and spelling rockets soon. We are working on a plan to work out how powerful the magnets we use will need to be!
This challenge is to use the magnet to get metal paper clips out of a jar of water without touching them!

We could pick up chairs with the strong handle magnet!
Meila's new baby brother
Today it was Meila's birthday and she brought her brand new baby brother Monroe to school to show us. He is such a lovely baby! Her Grandma made a beautiful birthday cake and we had sausage rolls too.
