Observational Drawing

Room1 have been working on observational drawings during art this week.
We took off our shoes and looked carefully at shape, size, proportion and the materials they were made of.
Here are some examples of our artwork! Come and see more in Room1!

Butterfly Lifecycles

Room1 are enjoying our butterfly life cycle investigations and have been observing each stage very carefully.
We have sketched, used pastels and painted each stage to show the completed cycle.

Easer Bunny!

Last Thursday Easter bunny visited the junior classrooms and we all enjoyed an Easter egg hunt!
Everyone found their decorated cardboard eggs and Easter bunny swapped them for chocolate ones! YUM!

Out in the Garden

At lunchtime today some keen gardeners from Room1 planted some plants for our newly hatched butterflies to drink nectar from. Nectar from flowers is the only food that butterflies need.

Plants for our Garden

Mrs Heath and I took a child from each of the junior class to MEGA 10 in Petone  to buy some plants for our butterfly attracting garden.
Now that we have butterflies hatching we need to have some nectar producing plants to provide food for them.

Monarch Butterflies

As part of our Life Cycles Inquiry we are studying the life cycle of the monarch butterflies we are hatching in our classroom.
When the butterfly wings dry out I tag the butterfly with a tiny tag and enter the details on a data base to track here they fly.

Our buddy class teacher Mr Woodhams about to set a tagged butterfly free.
We wonder where it will fly!

Kite making wth our big buddies.

On Friday we made decorated butterfly kites with our Room 24 big buddies.
They helped us with the tricky bits like completing each step in the right order, sticking on the straw for the cross bar and tying on the long string.
It was such fun to fly them out on the field together!
