Week 8 Certificates

Here are Room 4's fantastic assembly certificate winners this week!
Super spelling too!

Well done to the blue table group - super tidy and organised this week!

Shape dice Game

This week we combined maths and spelling and made a triple blend shape game.
We assembled 3D cubes with the triple blends we have been studying -spr, thr, spl, str, shr and squ printed on the sides. We took turns with a partner rolling the cubes and then writing as many words starting with the triple blend that was showing. Good fun and great spelling practice!

Shapes in the Playground

Room 4 went on a shape hunt and found more than 100 shapes in 10 minutes!
Here are some of or favourites!

Butterfly Tagging

Room 4 are butterfly taggers for the New Zealand Monarch Butterfly Trust!
Mrs Ryan tags the butterflies we raise with a tiny numbered sticker. She records the details on the national data base and we let the butterfly go and it flies away. We want to track how far tagged butterflies can fly and where they go! We hope that someone will see the sticker when the butterfly lands (a sighting) and report it to the Butterfly Trust. The destination details will be recorded and we can work out where it flew from! One of our tagged  butterflies has been spotted down at the end of Muritai Road!

Caterpillar to Chrysalis

The swan plant in our classroom has been the host plant to over 20 hungry monarch caterpillars over the past 4 weeks. We have been lucky enough to observe caterpillars turn to chrysalis and then watch as the chrysalis splits 12-14 days later and the butterfly emerges. It is always SO AMAZING to see!

Seaweek

Today we visited the beach with hoops and magnifying glasses for Seaweek.
We looked carefully to observe signs of life from the sea in our hoops and then looked more closely with the magnifying glasses. It was amazing what we could see!

Super certificate winners!

Two best table group awards this week and Junior Assembly C.A.R.E. certificates as well!
What super workers you are Room 4!  Mrs Ryan.

Room 4 Garden

Our garden needs some new plants!
This week we have been planting the new plants that Leo and William helped choose for the junior school butterfly attracting gardens.
We brainstormed what we could do to improve our garden to make it more attractive to butterflies.
These are our ideas.

Plant some new plants
that butterflies like.

Grow flowers with
different colours.

Water our garden
so it doesn’t get
too dry.

Put a flat rock or
stone for butterflies
to warm themselves on.

Grow flowers with nectar for butterflies.
