Ballet Workshop

Today Shannon from the Royal New Zealand Ballet Company helped us learn more about ballet in preparation for our visit to The Nutcracker in week 4. He showed us how ballet dancers do not speak on stage but mime words and actions with their bodies. We all had a try at miming happy, sad, beautiful, angry and lots of others too! We leaned about the ballet positions, how to leap through the air and how to point our toes. It was so much fun!

Volume,capacity and mass

Our first maths unit for term 4 explores the volume, capacity and mass of objects.
First we pushed, pulled and lifted light and heavy bags and boxes in order to become aware of mass. Then we poured sand to compare the volume of containers.
Today we had fun working with a partner to make a seesaw with a soft drink can and a sheet of corflute. We used lots of things around the classroom to make the seesaws balance. It was tricky, but we all managed it!

Florence's First Day at School

Emma and Harriet were so happy to have Florence start school today as has she she been away on holiday for several weeks! They showed her around the classroom and looked after her during the day. Florence enjoyed having news about her trip and her new rabbits, doing brain gym before handwriting, playing ladybird bingo at maths time, reading, playing with the dolls house because it was too wet to go outside at morning tea and meeting up with her big friend Grace in the playground at lunchtime. You are so clever at pointing to the words in your reading book Florence. Well done for a super start to school!
