Big Buddies Helping.

Mrs Ryan asked Room 11 to come to Room 1  to help put the shiny scales on our little buddy's rainbow fish. The backing is very hard to peel off. Now all of the big buddies have a little buddy in Room 1. There are 20 little buddies.
Room 11 big buddies loved helping with the portfolios on Wednesday and can't wait to share them next term.

Blaine's First Day

Blaine enjoyed his first day at school writing his first story, dancing, shopping with the cash register in the class shop and pointing to the words in his reading book. He is very clever at using Kidpix on the laptops and enjoyed eating his jelly while we investigated changing liquids to solids during our science unit on Food Changes! All Blaine's friends are delighted he has started school!

Life of Riley

Everyone in the school performed in The Short and Incredibly Happy Life of Riley this week. Room 1 practised almost every day with Room 3 for 3 weeks and there was a lot to remember! It was a great show and Room 1 are very proud of themselves! We hope you enjoyed watching as much as we enjoyed performing!

Sarah & Esme's First Day

Good friends Sarah and Esme both turned 5 today and started school together! They are both wonderful dancers!
They kept the beat with instruments and learned to identify New Zealand coins at maths time. They drew hedgehogs for Harry Hatman in Letterland and pointed to the words in their reading books. We practiced for the production and today the stage had spotlights, making it look like a real theatre! After lunch they read stories on the sofa with their school friends. Well done girls, we love having you in Room1!

Lachlan's First Day

Today Lachlan enjoyed dancing, reading, finding the b's in his poem, playing Duck Duck Goose and making numbers with a number fan at maths time. He will be a super sun in the school production! He ate lunch with his friend Joe and earned a certificate for good listening at Junior Assembly. Well done Lachlan, you have made a super start to school!

Ballet at Muritai School

Today we enjoyed an amazing visit by the Royal New Zealand Ballet Company.
The dancers showed us how they practise their steps and answered our questions about what it is like to be a dancer. They danced two dances from The Nutcracker and two modern dances as well. We learned some ballet steps and tried them out. Room 1 favourites were The dance of the Flower Fairies and the Lady GaGa dance.

International Literacy Day

Today, Wednesday 8th September, was International Literacy Day. We celebrated with our Room 11 buddies by reading stories together. Our big buddies visited the school library and chose favourite books to read to us and we chose favourite books for them. Everyone enjoyed the stories!

Self Portraits

Room1 have been completing their self portraits using black pens, pastels and dye.
They looked carefully at the size of different parts of their bodies and used the whole sheet of paper with their head at the top, feet at the bottom.

Koru Patterns

We made these collage Koru patterns as part of our focus on mixed media artwork.
We observed palm fronds carefully and tore up and pasted magazine pages to recreate the patterns we saw.
We hope you like them!
