Welcome to Term 2 in Room1!
We are pleased to have 2 new students in Room1 this week, Nicholas and Fergus.
A focus during the first week of each term is working together, so we have been enjoying some co-operative activities.

Gruffalo Stories

Room1 have enjoyed reading The Gruffalo and have written some stories describing their Gruffalo.
Come and read them all in the classroom!

Shapes

Over the past few weeks Room1 have been learning to recognise and name 2D and 3D shapes.
Here is some of our work.

Our Orchard

On Friday citizen scientist Stan Swan helped Room1 create a record of the growth of the fruit trees in our Muritai School orchard.

First we learned about the different types of trees and the fruit that will grow on these trees if we look after them. There are pear, apple, plum and feijoa trees.
We each chose a tree to help look after and Stan took photographs of us holding the name labels.
We checked out how tall the trees are now by comparing our heights with our tree.
We will do this again at the end of each year to see how much the trees have grown!

Observational Drawing

Room1 have been working on observational drawings during art this week.
We took off our shoes and looked carefully at shape, size, proportion and the materials they were made of.

Butterfly Lifecycles

Room1 are enjoying our butterfly life cycle investigations and have been observing each stage very carefully.
We have sketched, used pastels and painted each stage to show the completed cycle.
