This week is National Primary Science Week so Room 1, along with all the other classes, will be taking part in science experiments and investigations each day.
Today we played with "catchable" bubbles. The bubble mix had a plastic polymer added that gave the bubbles a very thin coating that made them strong enough to catch on our fingers without popping!
They were so strong that Oliver and Matty found one sitting on the computer keyboard two hours later!

Today our super Room 8 buddies helped us learn the order of the days of the week.
Together we sorted the days into the right order and put them together as a curly caterpillar.

We are learning to identify and make sets of numbers to 10.
Today we are using ladybird pegs to make a set matching each number to 10.
Junior Scientists Club runs at lunchtime every Wednesday in Room 1. Two students from each Year 1 & 2 class are chosen by their teachers to come for 5 weeks to learn about science topics such as air pressure, making mixtures, magnets and electricity. Each 5 weeks a new group of students are chosen, so there will be plenty of opportunity for having a turn.
This Wednesday we investigated air pressure,launching rocket balloons and making balloon powered cars.
Well done Room1!

Today the whole school met together with the Muritai whanau group, Kaumatua and Kokiri to celebrate and welcome back the two pou into the playground.
They have been mended and shifted from the sandpit area to the playground outside the main school.
The pou represent links to the earth, the sky and Tane Mahuta, and give strength to the school.
Mr Bird gave a speech in Maori and we sang the school song.
The Kaumatua gave a speech and told us that we can go and touch the pou and they will give us strength when we need it.
We are all very happy to have the pou back in the playground!
Several times a term the Year 1 & 2 classes have their own assembly in the school library, with each class taking a turn to be the presenters. Only parents of the class presenting are invited to attend, and our turn will be in week 8 next term. C.A.R.E. certificates are awarded to students from each room.

Today we met our big buddies for the first time! Our buddy class is Room 8 and they are in Year 4. Their teacher Mrs Chao brought the class over and we made super shape pictures together at maths time.
Next term we will come and visit you in Room 8! We love being your little buddies!
