SCIENCE WEEK!

Room1 have been busy exploring and experimenting this week.
So far we have tried out rockets powered by air pressure (foot pump) and chemical reaction (Alka seltza & water to produce carbon dioxide).

We explored gravity by spinning paper cups of water upside down and air powered balloon rockets in horizontal and vertical directions.

Chinese Day

On Monday it was Marshall's birthday and his mum Sprina brought in some special things to help us learn about China. We found China on the globe and discovered that it is a long way from New Zealand!
We looked at some Chinese writing and the alphabet, we tried counting in Mandarin and we made some beautiful decorations. Sprina decorated the room with red lanterns too and brought lovely hot dumplings for a special treat! Thank you so much Sprina!

We sang this song to help us lean to say hello and goodbye.

Teddy Bear Picnic

We had a Teddy Bear Picnic today as a treat for filling our Room1 "good talking"
 jar.
We all introduced our teddies or soft toys at Circle time and talked about what made them special.
During teddy bear maths we practised our basic facts with our class set of plastic teddies and we read lots of teddy stories and sang teddy songs.
After lunch we set out the picnic blankets and shared a lovely picnic feast of teddy fairy bread, tiny teddy biscuits, hot sausage rolls, and lots of fruit and other treats.YUM YUM YUM. Dan the caretaker came in too and told us about his favourite Care Bear.
Mrs Ryan's teddy Shackleton Bear had a puppet show and gave every teddy a certificate for being so special.
Thank you so much to all you wonderful supportive parents who helped in so many ways- sending food, picnic rugs and making sure the teddies came to school on the right day!

moveMprove

On Monday we began a movement and gymnastics programme called moveMprove.
Instructor Mel showed us lots of skills that we will be practising over the next 8 weeks.
Everyone moves around in groups just like when we do reading rotation. We all love it!
